Frozen is the first Disney animated feature film to have a woman director. It’s also the first to have a woman credited as the sole writer since Beauty and the Beast.
Why is nobody talking about this?
because everyone cares more about bitching about how poc arent in fucking denmark
And that Elsa’s hair isn’t animated right
Maybe because having two female directors does not stop the character designs from being lazy and sexist. Or because POC DID exist in Denmark, or maybe even having a solo female writer doesn’t stop the screenplay from suffering from character/plot inconstancies and horrible annoying tropes.
Also you should probably think twice about why you are trying to get people NOT to care about racial representation IN A FANTASY MOVIE.
So while it is great and totally note worthy that woman were prominently involved with production it does not make the film and better or fix any of the problems. And if you’re trying to say that having all these woman working on the film suddenly makes the film LESS offensively sexist then clearly you don’t know about Michele Bachman and the countless other Republican woman who are misogynistic and work AGAINST woman everyday.
Woman can be sexist.
Woman can make bad movies.
This fact doesn’t make Frozen a less problematic movie.
I know it’s trendy to fight the system and cry that we are all becoming slaves of technology, but this attitude overlooks that computers and phones are tools for communicating. When someone thinks I’m an idiot smiling at a machine, I’m actually smiling at my girlfriend who is 10000 miles away and whom I would have never met if not for these newfangled electronics. As they say: when the wise man points to the moon, the fool looks at the finger.
This is a topic that I’ve been wanting to tackle for a while now; much credit to this excellent post for bringing it to the front of my brain.
